The laptop is the 21C tool collection in one package par excellence. To be successful, the modern businessperson, homeworker, employee (in fact, practically everyone) needs to use the computer well, and often constantly. But over the 20 years of the rise of the PC, most people have become overwhelmed by the volume of information, and the breadth of tools available. Many have turned away from computer use, or got used to a limited toolset. This is not necessary, if they receive our computer training, in the form of our direct phone assistance, our ebooks, our sites, and our articles on computer use.
In the 80s, it was ‘word processing’ In the 90s, it was ‘work processing’ – WP, spreadsheets, business tools, etc. In the 21C, it is ‘world processing’, ie, connecting worldwide, networking, using distributed and virtual networks, particularly free phone calling, linking to virtual co-workers and communities no matter the distance, which has become irrelevant – you can easily go physically or electronically anywhere these days. Hence the Laptop Office. In the 21C, the laptop is a personal tool, it does much more, particularly ‘creative processing’ (images, video, sound, etc.), it’s a campus/classroom, it’s a meeting place (chat rooms, conferencing, etc.), it is income-producing in ways that are only limited by knowledge and imagination.
