About Us

Tim Strachan

My credentials for the job

I am a ‘futurist’ in some ways in that I like to see and embody  coming trends, the next wave. That is now the wave of the global citizen, the world-centric eco-aware traveller, roaming, connecting, healing, creating global links.

This is also a very optimistic possibility, for a critical mass of such people may be enough to engender ‘true globalization’, ie, based on respect for others and the world itself. Only this approach will save us from many impending disasters.

My experience

As a computerist

In the 1980s I started up the second disk-magazine anywhere in the world for computers. This digital publishing adventure was highly successful internationally and was the fore-runner of the website/cd-based publishing of today. My disk-magazine had the first ‘browser’, written especially for the magazine.

The disk-magazine and its associated ventures were devoted to showing ordinary users how to best use the personal computer in all its many forms. I created manuals, databases, a library of Public Domain software and much more. The Laptop-Office.com venture is a natural progression of the original idea behind the disk-magazine.

As an educator

My background in teaching (Mathematics and English and other subjects) were of great use in this main thrust—showing ordinary users how to get the most out of the time, money and effort they invested in the computer.

The Laptop-Office.com is doing the same for users in the much wider world of computing today.

Let us show you how to make the computer serve you, rather than the other way round!

As a traveller

My travels have led me to quite a few places over the past 30 years as you can see on the right (taken from my profile on www.virtualtourist.com, a useful site for travellers).

In those days of course, you couldn’t easily run your current business from wherever you were—unless you actually put down roots for a while and got a job. As a result, I’ve been a tutor in Greece, a chauffeur in London, a teacher in the UK, Paraguay and Argentina, an acupuncturist in Paraguay, and more… a checkered career, you might say, but a lot of fun and good practice in becoming a global citizen.
